"AI Socrates" lecture at manaba User Meetup 2025

On November 14, 2025, Asahi Net, Inc. hosted the “manaba User Meetup 2025”. manaba is a leading Learning Management System (LMS) adopted by many universities and higher education institutions across Japan.

Kicking off the event, our project member, Associate Professor Kazutaka Tanaka of the College of Arts and Sciences at J. F. Oberlin University, delivered the first lecture, titled “The Future of Education Co-created with AI: AI Socrates and the Dialogue Space for Learning”.

The presentation introduced the Humanitext project’s AI systems, such as “Humanitext Antiqua” (for Western Classics) and “Humanitext Aozora” (for Japanese literature), which are built upon databases constructed from expert knowledge.

The core of the lecture featured a live demonstration of “AI Socrates,” an initiative that deploys these research outcomes into a real-time conversational system. This aims to create a “dialogue space for learning” in the classroom, where students can engage in inquiry-based learning by conversing with an “AI Socrates” backed by reliable, specialized databases.

The talk also outlined a concrete vision for educational deployment, such as the “Academic Dialog” framework. This course-specific AI would use only materials provided by the instructor, allowing students to interact safely and effectively with the AI for an individually optimized learning experience.
