ANIMA ANTIQUA - Breathing Life into Classics - Video Poetry Screening & Talk Event
12/16/2025

We are pleased to announce a video poetry screening and talk event to present the outcomes of “ANIMA ANTIQUA: Breathing Life into Classics,” a new experimental initiative by the Humanitext project.
This project utilizes the advanced textual analysis capabilities of our AI dialogue system, “Humanitext Antiqua,” coupled with the latest video generation AI. It is an endeavor to revive the world of classical literature from 2,000 years ago for the modern age through visualization.
Event Overview
The event will be held as part of “Como no Ichi #02,” hosted by the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System Common Nexus (ComoNe).
- Date: Saturday, December 20, 2025, 10:30 - 17:30
- Venue: Tokai National Higher Education and Research System Common Nexus (Directly connected to Nagoya University Station, Meijo Line)
- Admission: Free, No registration required (Feel free to come and go)
Program Details
1. Video Poetry Screening (All Day)
“What if modern AI could witness the world narrated by ancient people?”
We will screen looping short films visualizing iconic scenes from Western classics such as Plato’s Apology, Homer’s Iliad, and Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Experience how the scenes and emotions extracted from original texts by Humanitext Antiqua have been reconstructed into fantastical visual beauty by generative AI.
2. Special Talk Event (11:00 – 12:30)
Project members Naoya Iwata, Chieka Saito, and Yuki Suzuki will discuss the behind-the-scenes production process.
- How did the AI “understand” and visualize mythological scenes?
- How were expert knowledge in classics and AI technology integrated?
- What emerges when a “machine” interprets a “story told by humans”?
The discussion will explore the core of the project from both technological and literary perspectives.
About ANIMA ANTIQUA
Adopted in October 2025, this experimental video project employs an innovative process where Humanitext Antiqua creates prompts for video generation from original texts under expert supervision. By presenting historical and mythological scenes like “The Death of Socrates” or “The Trojan War” as intuitive visual works, we aim to create a space where everyone, from children to researchers, can rediscover the soul (Anima) of the classics.
We look forward to welcoming you to the venue.
